چکیده

Absrract: We have been concerned with the development of alternate strategies for achievinc; metalion recognition. An important aspect of this research has been to investigate meta! ion complexation over a range of related macrocycles, incorporating different macrocyclic rhg sizes, donor atom set combinations and/or degree of ring substitution and to search for stability rrnxima at different points within this range. Assessment of the possible factors influencing any observed metal-ion recognition behaviour is then performed. This is followed by structural modification of particular ligand systems in an attempt to 'tune up' such behaviour. In particular instances it has proved possible to modify a ligand type progressively, using several 'tuning' cycles, such that very considerably enhanced discrimination towards a metal ion of interest has been achieved. In this manner, it has also proved possible to elucidate the subtle factors underlying different discrimination mechanisms. Studies of this type have tended to provide further insight into the factors influencing metal-ion discrimination than is normally possible for investigations involving a more limited ligand range.

A Microcalorimetry Study of the Binding of Nickel Ion by Human Growth Hormone

A binding study of nickel ions by a new recombinant human Growth Hormone (hGH), produced as an injected drug, has been done at 27˚C in NaCl solution (50 mM) using an isothermal titration calorimetry. There is a set of three identical and non-interacting binding sites for nickel ions. The intrinsic dissociation equilibrium constant and the molar enthalpy of binding are 40 μM and -16...

Torands Revisited: Metal Sequestration and Self-Assembly of Cyclo-2,9-tris-1,10-phenanthroline Hexaaza Macrocycles.

A series of novel toroidal cyclo-2,9-tris-1,10-phenanthroline macrocycles with an unusual hexaaza cavity are reported. Nickel-mediated Yamamoto aryl-aryl coupling was found to be a versatile tool for the cyclotrimerization of functionalized 1,10-phenathroline precursors. Due to the now improved processability, both liquid-crystalline behavior in the bulk phase and two-dimensional self-assembly ...

Synthesis, Structure and Catalytic Performance of N4-Macrocycles of Fe III and Co II for Oxidation of Hydroquinone

Macrocycles and p-benzoquinones (p-BQ) have been generally connected as potential co-synergist redox models in aerobic oxidation. To get insight for the synergist oxidation of hydroquinones (H2Q), thus, we synthesized and characterized dibenzotetraaza [14]annulene type macrocycles of FeIII and CoII metal ions and described by utilizing different examinations inc...

Comparison between the electrocatalytic properties of different metal ion phthalocyanines and porphyrins towards the oxidation of hydroxide.

This work reports on the electrocatalytic oxidation of hydroxide using different central metal ion phthalocyanines and porphyrins immobilized on gold electrodes. The apparent electrocatalytic activity of cobalt phthalocyanine or porphyrin modified electrodes was found to be the greatest among the present series of metal ion macrocycles investigated. Copper and unmetallated phthalocyanine or por...

Diversity of metal-organic macrocycles assembled from carbazole based ligands with different lengths.

A series of carbazole based ligands with different lengths were assembled with nickel ions to construct metal-organic macrocycles. High-resolution mass spectrometry and ion mobility-mass spectrometry have been used to analyse the resulting MnLn assembly coexisting in solution. Combining with the structural analysis of their solid confirmation, it was revealed that the diversity of the metal-org...
